Summer Ends - Winter continues

Since our last up-date at the end of Summer, we were once again invited to Hayfield Sheep Dog Trials in September where we hold an Event there whereby members of the public are invited to drive round a course that we set up on the hill side in a vehicle provided for them.

We hold it open to the public over the two day week end and all the money we raise goes to Hayfields Committee. They in turn hand out money to local charities who they feel are in need of the money. We had a really great week end and the weather was good too.

Our total raised for Charity was just short of £600.00 this year which wasn’t quite the £700 we had raised the past 2 yrs previous, so we guessed it must be that everyone is holding on to there money a bit more.

In October we did a Green Lane run with a small group of us, one of the lads led us around and we had a great day. Starting with a hearty breakfast at the Grouse Inn up Chunal (where we hold our meetings) we set off for Roych. If you haven’t driven this, its a farm lane that takes you up hill and then down to a ravine water crossing. After this its a pretty steep climb on the rock formation, taking your time and spotting each other it can be a bit bumpy but gives you a sense of achievement.

After finishing this we drove some of the more gentler lanes around Derbyshire and for our last lane we decided to come DOWN Stanage Edge as we believe its one way now.

We had a great day out, no one came back with any damage which is a plus and we had all enjoyed it.

We had our Annual Christmas Party at the Grouse Inn and I must say our Landlord/lady did us proud with an excellent meal. We also held our Charity Raffle & Quiz. This year we managed to raise £160.00 which one of our members dropped of at ‘The Willow Wood Hospice’  for the terminally sick in Ashton-u-Lyne on Christmas Eve.

On Boxing Day we had our Annual Run and as we always get an exceptionally good turn out for this, our V. Chairman did a superb job of organising it, mapping out routes and splitting up into small groups.

Our group had a great day as the snow was still hanging about and it gave it that Christmas’y feel. We did the lanes local and ventured as far as Hope, going over Burbage Moor.

Our last lane took us up Dirtlow Rake and the snow was pretty deep here, being the first vehicle we soon had snow packed under the protection plates and that led to the wheels spinning. We realised we were going nowhere. Another of our group had a go, but ended up the same so there not being much daylight left, I persuaded the lads to about turn and head off home. On our way down into Castleton we met a Lady who was stuck on the ice, our Gallant lads winched her to a sustainable part of the road and we waved her on her way. We then all headed off to our respective homes after yet another good day out.
