June -
Just to keep you up to date with our events; We had a Dusk 'till' Dawn run on Midsummer's Night ( the summer equinox). We had two small groups after meeting for tea at our meeting venue "The Grouse" up Chunal n/r Glossop. We both went onto different routes being careful not to go past any habitation after 10pm. We met up around 1.00am at a Parking area n/r the Fox House Inn at Hathersage for a midnight snack and a bit of banter just for good measure. Then splitting off again we did a few more lanes to eventually meet up at the top of Castleton where we cooked breakfast and watched the sunrise. This was a real bonus this year as in previous years its been cloudy. Below are the lads that made it to the end and the "Spectacular Sunrise"
We also had a good event in June at Two Dales with our Romiley friends as you'll see above. The old ones stepped back while the younger ones went about sawing campfire fuel and the youngest, Barney, was looking for the elixir that had been in the bottle.
Our second Ash Trophy event was at the beginning of July at Tong one of the best sites in the U.K.
Trevor and I went early Friday and put out punches 1-
Every thing went well for the event with 13 members taking part. It was a very close finish between Team Hawksworth & Simon and Team Graham & Pickles, just two points separated first and second. Having such a good turn out someone decided it would be a good Idea to put up the BIG White Marquee tent. Many hands making light work of it as they say, also below Barney & Tristan gave their opinion too.
The beginning of August saw our last Ash Trophy event with the Best All Rounder for the year being announced at the end of the day. We camped up at Upper Loads and again the weather was fine, Navigation was in and around Carsington Water and Holymoorside. At the end of this a Quiz set on knowledge of vehicles and Highway Code was entered in and then the final task of going through the years event scores. Below is Steve and Simon our out right winner and also the lads that made it to the end. After all the mental work, Barbecue and campfire brought out the sillies in the lads with can walking, arm wrestling and leg wrestling and just for good measure Tug of War.
Getting all this out of their boyish system they got down to the more serious task of drinking!
Below we have some of the lads trying the water and mud!
Well that was a great week end and every one enjoyed it. Even though that was the end of this years Trophy events we still have in September an invite back to Padfield for the Plumb Fair and our annual invite back to Hayfield running a 4 x 4 event along side the Sheep Dog Trials. If you'd like to meet us you can see us there.
