Green Lane Clean-up day

Our year for some of us started with the Green Lane Clean-up day. Officialy twice a year in February and October a date is set aside for repairs etc to green lanes and usually this is in conjunction with the local council in the area.

On the 26th Feb we met up in a cafe in Glossop for a hearty breakfast on a very cold Sunday Morning and then off we went towards Little Hucklow in Derbyshire for our first lane. Some of the Big Boys brought there Little Boys who also got stuck in to Help.

We had chosen 5 lanes to have a look at and these we had first Cleared with Derbyshire C.C. as some trees do have preservation orders on them and we arn't allowed to touch them but after checking, these lanes were going to be O.K.

The lane we did near the Quarry at Stoney Middleton proved to be quite busy. After one of our late members had come down it he then joined us to clear it. Leaving 3 at the bottom, 2 in the middle and 2 to the top, we had to do some shuffling round for a group of three land Rovers coming down to pass us and then a group of Bykers passed. On top of that we had a few walkers. After this we went on to a car park to have dinner.

The next lane was the most over grown out of the ones we'd chosen and needed alot of attention. We were carefull to leave the trimmings by the lane side and eventually reaching a very large water area on the lane we decided to call it a day.

We decided that while we were in the Hassop area we would do a few green lanes on the way back home and cosiquently as you can see below we came a cross a fallen tree.

Having the tools with them the lads cleared the way so that we could drive through.

We had a good day and then called off for a nice warm and a drink at the Grouse Inn at Chunal where we hold our 2wice monthly meetings.
