Trial
at Ilam 2005

I had not expected too many drivers at this event as it was so
close to the Easter event. In truth it is a better site for beginners
as there are fewer trees and long descents, what it does have in
abundance though are dips, holes, axle twisters and short steep
ascents. I was pleased when a number of people had decided to double
drive, making the number up to ten. I myself had decided to stand
on the sidelines for this event.

The ground is always dry at Ilam and which suits the Discovery
drivers, where the weight of the vehicle does not count against
them.
Steve Hawksworth
got of to a poor start as he failed to make a short climb, which
his wife Sharon made easy work of. |

The top few places seemed to change constantly, as each driver
made small mistakes here and there.

Newcomer,
Alan guided the big Discovery II around the sections like he had
been trialing before.
Despite assistance from Hadyn, Steve H was unable to claw back
all the points he had lost and finished joint 3rd with Arlo in
the Jimny. John Pickles suffered from an earlier mistake and finished
2nd, leaving David Hamilton to receive the trophy for 1st place. |
