Green laning in Wales

We arrived at the hotel at five on Friday afternoon and refreshed ourselves with a swift pint in the bar! Graham, Jane and myself had driven down together and Colin, Pat, Trevor, Wynn, Alan, Steve, Eddie, Steve Hawksworth and his Dad David all arrived sometime later. We have driven most of the lanes in North Wales so this time decided to move further south to mid Wales.

We had two groups organised, with Jane and myself leading a group to tackle some more challenging lanes.

We were expecting poor weather but we were treated to glorious sunshine for the whole weekend.

Unfortunately going first always seems to mean you get stuck!

We encountered some deep washouts on one lane that meant we needed to stand on the side of both the Suzukis as they leaned over into the bank with two wheels off the ground. Steve's Land Rover made it look easier, as it was so much wider.

The last lane of the day was the worst and we needed a winch just to get onto it. The lane was no more than a quarter of a mile long, but took us over four hours to get three vehicles through. The last hole was so deep we did not even attempt to get Graham's and Steve's vehicles through, so a diversion was found.

Very little damage was done to the cars, just one indicator lens and a bent wing.

We all had an extremely enjoyable weekend. The hotel was excellent and the company was very good. I do remember smoking Eddie's pipe, but I don't remember standing naked on the landing in the middle of the night. I'm sure Jane is making this bit up.
