Trialing at the old lead mines Ilam

We all set off early for the trial at a new venue - the old lead mines near Ashbourne.

Nine vehicles in total took part in the trials, which had been set out the week before by Jonathan and Steve. We had a good turnout for this late addition to the club calendar, with nine vehicles trialing and a number or spectators.

Due to the nature of the site the ground conditions were ideal for this time of year with a stone base and grass on top, so the sections did not cut up as each driver made their attempt at the sections, however the deceptively slippery grass caught out a few drivers.

As the site was relatively small the sections were set out with some tight turns and this led to some quick decisions being made as the drivers went from gate to gate. It was nice to see some new faces along with the return of Ian and Aileen who have not been out with us for a while.

The trials were stopped briefly for an SOS call from down a nearby lane as commotion was heard, but it turned out to be a farmer rounding up his sheep. This also signalled the arrival of the Fish's and John Horton along with friends who joined in for a few sections.

Trevor had taken the lead with some consistent driving on the early sections, with the other places changing from section to section. However a bad mistake in the afternoon saw Jonathan take first place and with only one more section to drive the places remained intact.

An early finish in the afternoon meant a number of members took advantage of the location and finished of the day with some Greenlaning.

The final results for the trial were as follows:

Sections 1 2 3 4 5 6 Totals
