Hayfield Sheepdog Trials

The club attended Hayfield sheepdog Trials for I think the sixth or seventh time. Every year we set out a 4x4 course and let the public have a go. All money we raise throughout the weekend goes to local charity, chosen by the Hayfield committee. This year was one of our best so far as we raised £257.
As usual Pat and Trevor arrived on the Friday to set out our display for the weekend. When Eddie and Steve H arrived I believe Trevor was being told off...by Pat , that doesn't sound like her!
Saturday morning saw Pat arranging the men to arrange the signs that pointed to our stand. Some more club members arrived to lend a hand, Gareth and Jayne, John and Albert.

The course was set and ready for the paying public - for £3 a customer got driven round the trials course once by an instructor and then drove round once (with the instructor in the passenger seat). Each customers score was noted and added to the draw for a bottle of whisky.

In true money making style we gave the public a chance of a real bargain, for £4 english pounds they could drive round not just once, but twice - are we doing a deal or are we doing a deal!

Steve H makes himself look really busy at the club stand!

The landrover was again provided by Hallams of Hayfield and as it only had two seats, Trevor, Steve H and Gareth made their vehicles available for passengers to be driven round for £1 each.

As usual Trevor helped by John, Gareth and Albert started to dig the course out to make it more interesting.

Mmm look at that arse crack!

For the first time, the club had managed to get a spot that was on the flat, usually we camp on the hill and wake in the morning at the bottom of the sleeping bag. Jonathan and I went home on Saturday night so it's over to Gareth to take us through until Sunday evening.

Pat & Trevor went out for a meal, Eddie, Jon, Jayne, Steve H and myself stayed to have a BBQ and sort a fire out, we also made a cracking rope swing. Once the wood had been sorted the fire was built and lit, up to this point Steve H had been known as Uri Hawksworth, but suddenly he was Log-a-doodle-do…. Step forward Tony (Night Log) Hawksworth, like a man possessed, this was to be the best fire to have graced the Glossop 4x4 Group. Steve, sorry Tony Hawksworth was so smitten with his fire that he chose to sleep under the stars next to it.

Sunday started off with plenty of people wanting to have a go and more wanting to ride in the 90's & Disco. It had become so busy that we were taking money & names and asking people to come back in 30 mins. At some points we had 4 vehicles on the course (evenly distanced) to clear the backlog, we were doing a roaring trade, and it was all for Charity mate (said in my best attempt at a Smashy & Nicey voice).

Yet again the show proved a huge success and allowed many people to try something new.
